The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety has released a new study that could potentially prevent as many as 63,000 truck related accidents every single year. In 2015, commercial trucks were involved in more than 400,000 vehicle accidents representing a 4% increase from the year before.

Using onboard safety technology such as automatic braking, video based safety monitoring systems, air disc brakes and lane departure warning systems could help to prevent accidents but also to make other drivers on the road more confident when traveling next to trucks. 1 out of 4 drivers expressed discomfort when driving their own vehicle near a tractor trailer rig and those same people felt that adding safety technology to these large trucks would help them to feel more confident about sharing the road.

The costs associated with deploying these systems, according to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, would pale in comparison to the potential benefit as well as the reduced number of injuries and lives saved by deploying them. Most trucking accidents could be prevented if drivers were informed about safety and stuck to safety rules and guidelines, but unfortunately, that is not always guaranteed.

If you or someone you know has already been involved in a serious trucking accident in San Francisco, you need to consult with an injury lawyer who can help you to document your injuries and fight for compensation.
