Inclement weather can occur at any point in time throughout the San Francisco area, and being caught in a rainstorm could even put you at risk for a life changing accident. According to recently released research, even light rain could increase your chance of a fatal vehicle accident.
The study released by the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society says that the wetter the roads are, the deadlier they become. Rain, ice and snow can all increase the risk of deadly car crashes by over 33%. Even a light drizzle increased fatal crash risks by 27%, according to the study. More than 125,000 fatal vehicle accidents were explored that occurred between 2006 and 2011. This was the first study of its kind to use extremely precise weather radar data in an attempt to distinguish how hard this rain was falling.
Although many people tend to slow down when it begins to rain heavily, most people do not adjust their speed much for light rain. In moderate rain, the risk of a fatal vehicle crash is 75% higher than in nice weather. If you have already been involved in a serious vehicle accident during any type of inclement weather and believe it is the responsibility of another who failed to adjust his or her behavior for evolving weather conditions, you could be eligible to file a personal injury claim with the assistance of an experienced lawyer.
