Red light cameras have formed an important purpose from the time they have been installed at many busy intersections. That reason has primarily been to deter people from running through red lights or engaging in other dangerous and negligent behavior at an intersection. Sometimes even the presence of a red light camera when it isn’t even working can help to deter negative behavior.
However, new research presented at the American Academy of Pediatrics Conference held in San Francisco connected traffic fatalities for children in multiple states with weak red light camera enforcement laws. It turns out that these red light cameras are doing a whole lot more to minimize the potential for accidents.
Sliding through a red light or a stop sign has the potential to kill. Pedestrians crossing an intersection or other cars seeing that they have the right of way gives little opportunity to avoid an accident, especially if one car is speeding.
If you or someone you know has recently been hurt in a vehicle accident or pedestrian accident when someone ran through a red light or wasn’t paying attention while coming up to the intersection, you may be entitled to recover personal injury compensation.
