A new IIHS study has revealed that smaller vehicles account for the vast majority of highest driver fatality rates when compared with large SUVs. The general wisdom when people purchase or lease a car is that driving a bigger car gives you the best possible chance of coming out of an accident either unharmed or with minimal injuries.

Because of new safety and technology features that have been implemented in many different vehicle designs, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety decided to complete a study for the kinds of vehicles that were involved in fatal accidents between 2014 and 2018. The study found that many cars and small cars continue to hold the title for most fatalities. Smaller cars had 82 fatalities per million, whereas large SUVs only accounted for 15 fatalities per million.

The safest vehicles identified in the IIHS study were luxury sedans and SUVs. If you have recently been hurt in an accident, you could be entitled to recover compensation regardless of the size or style of your vehicle. If you can show that the other party was at fault for causing the accident, share this information with your experienced San Francisco personal injury lawyer.

Even when you’ve done the homework to purchase a safe vehicle, you can still end up suffering substantial injuries when hurt in an accident. It shouldn’t fall on you to cover all the costs of those injuries if someone else triggered the accident. Sadly, for too many California drivers and passengers, you can wind up paying the price for another person’s dangerous or careless actions.

A car accident lawyer can play a critical role in helping you to recover the compensation you need and in understanding all of the different tasks ahead of you as you approach the legal process of fighting back.
